God's Work. Our Hands.

God, send us out into the world to do the work you have given us to do:
to find the lost and lonely, to heal broken souls,
to free prisoners and
to make the powerful care for all people.
Grant us strength to proclaim your love in all we say and do.

Here are a couple things we are doing in and around Midlothian.  We'd love to have you join us.

Food Pantry

PADS Shelter

CEDA Utility Assistance

Every Tuesday evening from 6:30pm-8pm the St. Stephen Food Pantry opens its doors to individuals and families.  Help with sorting food donations and distributing food to the Food Pantry patrons is always needed.  Contact the church office if you have any questions, would like to lend a hand, or if you have donations of non-perishable food.  Thank you!

We are open during the COVID-19 pandemic with new low-contact procedures. Click here for the most up to date information.

Need more resources?  Click here for a list of area resources, including shelters, food pantries, hot meals, clothing assistance, emergency housing, and counseling.

Need to get in touch about the pantry? Send an email right here or give us a call!

St. Stephen is glad to partner with Redeemer Lutheran in Oak Forest, who is a host site for a PADS emergency homeless shelter from October to April. Members of St. Stephen volunteer to work shifts throughout the night, which might involve serving dinner, assisting guests, arranging the space, or preparing old breakfast or sack lunch for the next day. Volunteers from St. Stephen also have the opportunity to cook and serve dinner on some Saturday nights. We collect lunch supplies, so that all guests can be sent out with lunch for the following day. Also, members of St. Stephen have donated many other items needed by the shelter and its guests. There is always a box in the narthex at St. Stephen that accepts donations for the PADS shelter, if you would like to donate.

St. Stephen is proud to partner with the assistance organization CEDA to provide a place for their partners to do intake for their utility assistance program. Please go to CEDA’s website or stop in at St. Stephen at one of the designated times to learn more.

Utility assistance intake takes place at St. Stephen every other Tuesday from 10am-1pm. Please call the church office to confirm which dates someone will be present. Click here for a flyer with more information.

And a little further away...

St. Stephen is proud to support the great work of the synod and churchwide ministries of the ELCA throughout the country and the world. We do this through our regular contributions to the larger church body. Throughout the year, we also raise funds to donate to ELCA Good Gifts, which go to grow the church, fight hunger, and transform people’s lives.

Click these links to learn more about ELCA Good Gifts, ELCA Global Mission, the ministries of the Metropolitan Chicago Synod, and the many other ministries of the ELCA, which St. Stephen supports.
